Extreme Couponing on TLC Tonight: {Featuring Amber B!}

Normally I am not this excited for the the TLC Extreme Couponing episodes as they totally show us couponers as darn near HOARDERS and shelf clearers…but I do like to watch how much they save. Well tonight I am so excited to watch because one of my pals Amber Bustanoby is going to be on!

You remember Amber don’t you??  Amber was one of the Golden Scissors Club Winners here on Happymoneysaver.com (a contest I hold every once in awhile to see who the super shoppers are out there!). Here was her shopping trip then. (Sorry Amber…yes we ARE going down memory lane…hee hee!)

Amber spent $5.42 for this shopping trip & saved $162.29! This as December 2010.

Here is what she said about her shopping trip:

“ I have to say that this was my best shopping trip ever!  I have been couponing since April 09 and have loved every minute of it!  Thank you so much for all your help because I couldn’t of done it without you.  I have never danced at the cashier stand, but this time I seriously did!!  I mean look at all that chicken and cheese!!!  So I had to shake my money maker on this one!  I was sweating, smiling and shaking!!  The cashier even congratulated me and when the manager came over and said look at all she got for $5! The manager said yelp she’s pretty good at that!  My daughter in this picture is saying CHEEEEESE!  Thanks you again for all your help.  This was all done at Albertsons!

So anyways, Amber now has since then started her own blog – called Coupon Connections NW - and she is one amazing blogger! She often finds great in-store unadvertised deals and is just the nicest person you could know. I cannot wait to watch what she does on TLC Tonight!

The TCL Extreme Couponing Show airs at tonight (May 11th, 2011) at 9/8 Central – which I think is 9pm for me in WA state….(right after American Idol!)  Go Amber – hope you do us all PROUD over here in WA state!8 Comments

    So exciting! I remember her shopping trip way back when and I was shocked then. Cannot wait to see how the extreme coupon show goes.

  2. Wonderful, I will be watching!

    I normally don’t watch this show because I dislike the way these couponers hoard too many items. I mean, come on – 1000 toothpaste? I know they donate but really that is crazy. That is neat though that this Amber started couponing with help from your website just like me. Maybe someday I will do amazing shopping trips like that, just not right now.

    I thought it was cool that there was finally 2 shoppers from Washington State on Extreme Couponing, but disappointed becasue those two stores they show have coupon limits and only one of them has special double coupons. I am new to this couponing, but don’t see that I would ever be able to save like that without having to be on TLc and having them make special arrangements with th sotre.

  5. I’ll admit I was excited to see a ‘local’ on the show tonight, especially since she was one of our own, but I wasn’t at all impressed. Shelf clearing, buying medicine that she admits she doesnt use but bought just because it made her two dollars a box. Tsk tsk. Very unrealistic as well, no store manager is going to make those accommodations. I dont understand why everyone who goes on this show has to show us their ‘biggest haul ever’. Why can’t we just see a regular trip to the store? A trip where they are only allowed 3 doublers per transaction, and only 3 transactions in a row before they have to leave and come back? Disappointed all the way around.

  6. I really do not understand why people are hung up on the doubler part of this episode. The way I see it, they could have had Amber to separate transactions and the result would have been exactly the same. The only difference would have been that instead of one large receipt, she would have had multiple small receipts. The total spent and the total saved would have been exactly the same. I have personally done several shopping trips that involved single transactions…use my three doublers, my manufacturers coupons, pay and go to the car. Then I come back in and start over. I shop at 5 different Albertson stores and none of them have limited me to the number of single transactions I can do during the doubler period. For expediency, the store allowed Amber to do it all in one transaction. Obviously a “regular” shopping trip does not have the “wow factor” that the Extreme version does. I do understand people’s problem with the show though…maybe it should be like one of those diet commercials on TV…at the start of the program there should be a disclaimer saying “results shown are not typical”. Kudos to all you blog hosts for the work that you do.

    KaeLee – if they didnt have that WOW factor they wouldnt probably be allowed to be on the show most likely. Sad but true. They want the WOW factor to shock people.

  8. Kimberly says:

    My local Albertson’s allows us to use 9 doublers in one transaction – but then only the one transaction can have the doublers. That has worked out nicely when it’s a “Buy 10, save $5″ deal, let me tell you!

    I was glad that Amber mentioned having called ahead to pre-order the 400 bottles of sports water. The shelf clearing makes me crazy, the pre-order is so much nicer to the rest of us shoppers who might only be coming in hoping to find 6 or 8 of an item, only to find the shelf already cleared.
