Help to make a difference.

I live a blessed life. I have a wonderful family, lots of great food, a warm home and  running water. I feel so horrible for all the people of Haiti right now, the suffering and loss is so great.  I cannot imagine what they must be going through.

Money Saving Mom has coordinated an effort for bloggers to get united in helping out the people of Haiti. There are alot of bloggers participating, and you can go there to comment and she will donate to the cause for every blogger that links back.

How can you give back?
Well, first make sure you’re donating to a legit organization. As sad as this is to say, there are lots of scams out there. CNN has put together a great resource here with a list of legit organizations you can donate to.

Donate to Compassion International

Numana– .30 cents provides one meal for someone in Haiti

The Red Cross has an option to donate $10 by sending a simple text message. Just Text ‘Haiti’ to 90999 to donate $10. You can check out more details on this donation here.

A cool idea I read about was donating a weeks worth of the money you have saved coupon shopping.  This is a great idea! If you dont have much money yourself to spare, please keep the people of Haiti in your prayers. I believe prayer can go a long way. My family and I will be praying for them as well.  I will also be donating what I can and asking you all to do the same!

Feel free to share other ways you have found to help in a comment below.5 Comments

  1. LDS Humanitarian Services – 100% of funds donated are used for humanitarian services and programs – the Church uses other funds to cover administrative expenses for the humanitarian program.

    Donations can be mailed to:

Red Cross – .92 of every dollar donated is used for humanitarian services and programs. The public can also help by texting “Haiti” to 90999 to send a $10 donation to the Red Cross, through an effort backed by the U.S. State Department. Funds will go to support American Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.

You can donate to the Red Cross online at THIS LINK.

You can also help by spreading the word that PinchingYourPennies.com will be donating .10 for each new Facebook fan, up to a maximum of 20,000 fans, or $2000.00. As of this posting, we have 18,777 fans. We’ll donate .10 for each new person that becomes a fan of PYP on Facebook in the next 48 hours. We will make the donation through LDS Humanitarian Services, where 100% of donations are used for humanitarian services.
