I was on Facebook the other day browsing through my feed when I came upon a picture of my friend Emily’s kids doing something pretty special. They put on a Lemonade stand, but used it as an opportunity to help others and teach their children the importance of giving. Here is what my friend Emily had to say:
“In making a summer bucket list for her daughter, my friend Carly decided a lemonade stand would be fun and invited us to join in. However, with the recent tornadoes in Oklahoma, we decided to use it as a way to help victims, as well as a teaching opportunity for our daughters in caring for and helping others and being aware of the world around them.
Our daughters were excited about being able to help people who had lost so much. 100% of the proceeds (over $160!) were donated to help Oklahoma tornado victims. People were very kind and generous; one woman even stopped by just to donate money as she was from Oklahoma. The girls really enjoyed this experience!”
Isn’t that awesome? I instantly thought back to my first post about this happy thoughts series, and what the main drive for it was for me. I really wanted to put a stop to my way of thinking and doing. So often I would have a nice thought like, “Hey I should bring that person a plate of cookies.” Or “Hey that girl could use a friend”. Or “Hey…..” I mean, I have these nice happy thoughts running through my head all day long of what I should be doing.. but often times I would ignore the thoughts. This series for me was all about turning happy thoughts into happy actions.
I really hope you have enjoyed this series. It was so much fun and it truly made me happy doing things for others. Like my friend Emily and so many others, I hope this series has inspired you to do some good in this world. Don’t just sit around and let life pass you by. Get out there and live. Get out there and give. And most of all BE HAPPY.
