I wanted to come up with a simple but fun craft idea for the kids to make for summer and I thought felt bracelets would be fun, simple and great! The best thing is I had everything on hand besides the green binding that my dear friend/ neighbor, Vicki, let us use. 🙂 Thank goodness for awesome friends/neighbors!
Items needed:
- Felt – whatever colors desired
- Sharp Scissors (I found hair cutting scissors worked the best)
- Ruler (in case you can’t cut straight lines)
- Needle
- Thread
- Fabric Glue
- Sticky Back Velcro (I used the round pre-cut package)
- Buttons – optional (I used quilt binding – that’s all I had on hand and it matched perfectly!)
- Ribbon (optional)
We used all different colors so we could wear them after Valentine’s Day. If you want more of a Valentine’s look you could always stick to pink, purple and red.
If you choose to, you cut the felt in 2 different measurements (1 inch and 1-1/2 inch was the width used here). Cut some flowers, circles, diamonds, butterflies (if you’re an over achiever) or quite frankly anything your little heart desires. I think we’ll make a lady bug bracelet this spring. 😉
Now, you can choose how you want each bracelet. I let the kids choose exactly how they wanted it after I showed them 2 examples. You’ll want to cut down the bracelets to fit whomever it’s for, but leave a 1 inch overlap for the Velcro. I also rounded the edges to give them a finished look. Once you have them all assembled you can do one of 2 things: either fabric-glue the whole shebang OR simply sew the long felt layers together and finish by sewing the buttons on.
Once you have the bracelet all intact you can add the Velcro to opposite ends; one on top and one on bottom. Your bracelet is complete! Hope you enjoyed our fun and easy felt bracelets! I’m curious, what interesting items have you used felt for?
Psssst…
