Chapter 11: Bigfoot, Lochness Monster and the Male Couponer
What do Bigfoot, the Lochness Monster, and the Male Couponer have in common? All three have been reportedly seen by eyewitnesses but all still remain elusive and a myth. Today though my wife swears she saw the rare and exclusive male couponer. He supposedly was in the line ahead of her and unabashedly pulled out a fistful of mighty coupons and paid for his transaction. When being told this tale of wonder I could only think one thing “oh crap!”
Why is it that our wives or girlfriends are always trying to get us to like the same hobbies as them? They want us to become one of the girls. We don’t try to push football on them, but they are always trying to get us to go to the next Twilight movie or Craft Fair with them. For the most part I’ve been able to avoid these hobbies, obsessions, and interests but my wife is always looking for me to join in. Getting me to coupon is her next wish.
I do my part with her couponing. I stand in line with her, push cart after cart of product down the aisles, and I even stand in as the “other transaction” when she needs me. This however is not enough and she wants me to become more involved.
I don’t know why my brain shuts down when she starts rolling off words like catalina’s, doublers, and register rewards… but it just does. I can’t tell you why more men aren’t into couponing but I do know most guys are not going to stand around and talk about an awesome blinky they found. In fact I’m pretty sure just using the word blinky would get them expelled from the man cave.
To those male couponers out there – if you really exist – I salute you. You are a rare creature indeed. As for whether my wife can turn me into a male couponer, lets just say my daughter has a better chance of getting a unicorn for her birthday.
