Summertime. How I love summertime. Its so hot and there is always so much we can do. Oh and don’t get me started on the blue skies…(sigh). Here in my town, we have been getting 95 degree temperatures…so it’s h.o.t. With that heat I of course I have been cranking on my Air Conditioner on stay cool. But Central Air Conditioning uses more electricity on your bill than anything else (in warmer regions its up to 60-70% of the bill). So here is a thrifty tip to save money on your electricity bill this summer.
Thrifty Tip: Shut off your A/C at night. Just open those windows, use a fan, shower or even throw on a wet-wrung out shirt before bed to keep cool as well.
I can remember spending one summer in St. George, UT where it is really HOT (like 105+ daily) in a house with my grandma. She did not have air conditioning. So, when I first arrived I thought I would die. “No AC Grandma??” I asked. “How can one survive?” She assured me it would be okay. And, it was possible, (while I wouldn’t recommend going completely without A/C for all my readers out there…) How I survived was I took a cold shower right before going to bed. My wet hair kept me cool all night. Plus the windows were all opened and we had a nice breeze going through. I slept well and kept cool all night.
So shut off that A/C for a night. Go ahead and give it a try. You can save a lot of money this summer by reducing your electricity bill.

We’re here in the Tri-Cities too and our very old central air system gave out in time for summer. Lucky for us to have a cooler start to the season but it was pretty horrible for a bit. You’re right about the windows and cold showers. Just jumping in the the kids’ pool was enough to keep me cool for hours. The reduction in the energy bill was encouraging by the end of the summer and we certainly enjoyed more fresh air than normal;).

I error on the side of safty over saving money dealing with open windows. Too many times robbers/assualts/kidnappings have occured due to unlocked windows/oropen windows. Measure your window opening where a person can not reach inside;go to your lumber store and for free they will cut sticks to put in your window so it can not be slide open for someone to get in. also you could place the stick crossways like / and then that would be a different measurement. cool and safe

While I’d like to take you up on this idea…. I’m one of those few readers that won’t. I live near Phoenix, AZ. It’s worth the $300+ A/C bill to keep it on during the summer nights. But I can guarantee, while you all are battening down your hatches for the winter time, I’ll be swinging my windows wide open and letting lots of fresh air in the rest of the year. (*SMILE*)
Sorry you had to change your name but I do like your new look. Very fresh!
I hope you don’t lose too many followers with the change.

It’s a lot of work, but I can understand why you are making the change. I love how you are making this more about the whole family and not just shopping helps. Excited to see more as it develops.
I love it in the winter when we can open our windows at night!
