Carpooling not only helps keep more of your hard-earned cash in your pocket (and out of your gas tank), but it also saves a lot of wear ‘n tear on your vehicle.
Contrary to popular belief, carpooling isn’t just for commuting between home and office – it’s also a busy mom’s best friend! Why drive to/from every class or event, when you can share the burden and make life easier for everyone all around? Even a smaller carpool consisting of 1-2 other families would make a huge difference. Consider arranging carpools between your children’s sports practices, dance classes – even going back ‘n forth to school this fall! 🙂
If you’re looking to take your commuter savings one step further, you may want to consider (don’t flinch)…public transportation.
Taking the bus is a great way to avoid those pesky traffic headaches and parking nightmares found in larger cities. For example, my daughter (Denise speaking) takes ballet class in downtown Seattle and we live about 30 minutes north of the school. So four days a week, you’ll find us hopping aboard a bus to Seattle from our local Park & Ride. Yes, we still get to the school within 30 minutes or less, but we don’t have to worry about paying for gas or all that (icky) Seattle parking!
Do you carpool or use public transportation to save money?

This is quite topical! I started taking the bus to work a few months ago – though it meant two buses and 1 hour time (normally takes me 20 minutes in the morning and 45 or so at night from my old house)
We just moved to a new house about 3 exits north. It will add about 10 minutes bus time – but probably at least 20 minutes in traffic travel time.
THis morning I opted for the car – it took me 1 hour and 10 minutes. Though I know the bus will take longer – the joy of being able to read, relax, check emails and not worry about traffic on top of the money savings (roughly $100 in gas a month savings for taking the bus roughly 70% of the time) is well worth it to me.
