Today’s Thrifty Tip is to print your printable coupons on scratch paper! I have been known to take my kids old homework paper (if its blank on the back) or other random papers and just stick those in my printer to print off my coupons. Yes, sometimes I may hand the cashier a pink printable, but they don’t mind. As long as it scans I am good to go.
Savin money on printer paper…seems simple but the savings can really add up and its great for the environment.

I know this is 4 years old but I just found your website and I LOVE IT! You have so much useful information. My tip is I use all of my kids’ papers that they bring home from school that is blank on the back as well as junk mail to print things that aren’t important. I buy a pack of printer paper maybe once a year doing this.

Genni – I know what you mean!! I wrote a little directional note and taped it on my printer so I wouldnt forget which direction..lol. I hate it when I lose a printable.

Hi Kari (nice name by the way), I actually use a Samsung toner-type printer that I bought used from a friend for like $35. It only prints black & white copies all the time. I have to pay like $90 for the toner (which I use my rewards from Staples on to reduce the cost)and it lasts almost a whole year or longer!
This hp printer pictured I only use for my color copies because it has the same exact problem that you mentioned and it will not print coupons in black & white. I would suggest getting another printer perhaps..ink is just so expensive. I do not know how to fix it.

I also re use paper that I have printed on. If I only print one coupon at a time (I don’t print every coupon just to have it, I only print the ones that are linked in match ups). When I print that coupon, I cut right under it and put the paper back in the printer, I have been able to get 3 out of a page. Just be sure to watch for the coupons that print full ads first! I hate that!
I also get right up to the printer if I am printing one coupon and watch for the coupon to be printed completely and then hit cancel so I dont get the FULL COLOR pictures that can also print after the coupon! Just dont cancel too soon! You need the full barcode;) I’ve dont that before…oops!

Thanks for the great tip on the scratch paper! I wanted to ask you a technical question about your printer! I also have an HP, and I can’t get bricks or coupons.com to print black and white fast print to save on ink. All my defaults are fast, economical printing, grayscale, and all the other sites print according to the defaults. But I can’t get bricks and coupons.com to print according to the default. HP said that some coupons that print right to the computer bypass the printer driver, therefore bypassing the defaults. So they can’t help me. They said to contact coupons.com and ask them. Anyway, I saw your coupons.com printing black and white, and I wondered if there is some secret setting somewhere you could tell me about. The funny thing is my printer used to print those ones black and white, but it lost it’s settings. When I first got it I had to do something special to make it print those black and white, but now I don’t know what I did to make it print that way! I would really appreciate any advice you might have because I am wasting a lot of ink!
