Ingredients to make Freezer Friendly Garlic Bread
- Bread: Use long bread loaves such as French bread, Baguettes, or Italian bread. You can use either white or whole wheat bread, as you prefer.
- Butter: Use good quality unsalted butter to adjust the seasonings yourself. You can also use salted butter but be careful to not overseason.
- Garlic Powder: Garlic powder is a pantry staple that you always have available and a good substitute for fresh garlic to make garlic bread even easier and quicker.
- Parsley: Dried parsley is another pantry staple, easy to use. If you have more time, you can also use finely chopped fresh parsley.
Instructions with Photos
Making this freezer friendly garlic bread will be the easiest thing you do all day!
Step 1. Cut your loaf of bread in half long ways. In a bowl, combine the butter, parsley, garlic powder and salt. Mix thoroughly.

Step 3. Apply the butter mixture to the inside of both halves of the bread.
Step 4. Lay your bread on a cookie sheet, butter side up and place in the freezer for about 20 minutes. You can skip this step if you don’t mind the butter mixture sticking to your knife.
Step 5. Remove from freezer and slice your bread into large chunks.
Step 6. Place the chunks on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 325 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
Freeze for Later Instructions
If you want to freeze this delectable bread recipe for later, simply lay both sides of the bread on a cookie sheet, and butter up, for 20 minutes. Remove from freezer and put both halves together, butter side facing each other. Wrap it thoroughly in plastic wrap then place it back in the bag you bought it in. Remove the air from the bag and twist the top closed.
To bake from frozen: Slice bread into chunks. Place the chunks on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 325 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
Substitutions and Variations
- Vegan: Use plant-based butter and check that your bread is vegan.
- Low-Sodium: Omit the salt and use unsalted butter.
- Herb Variations: Substitute parsley with basil, thyme, or a mix of Italian herbs for a different flavor profile.
- Cheesy Garlic Bread: Sprinkle grated Parmesan or mozzarella on top before baking.
- Spicy Garlic Bread: Add red pepper flakes to the butter mixture for a kick.
- Garlic Bread Sticks: Slice the bread into sticks before applying the garlic butter for fun, dip-friendly shapes.
Serving Suggestions
Serve garlic bread toast fresh from the oven while it’s still warm and crispy. It pairs beautifully with pasta dishes like spaghetti bolognese or a creamy alfredo. It also makes a great starter; serve it alongside a selection of cheeses, cured meats, and olives for a simple yet elegant appetizer.
Recipe FAQs
A crusty French baguette or a dense Italian loaf works best as they hold up well under the weight of the butter and retain a good crunch.
Yes, you can freeze individual garlic bread toast slices. Spread the butter mixture on the bread slices, wrap them individually in plastic wrap, and freeze. Bake them directly from the freezer when ready to eat; just add a few extra minutes to the cooking time. Or you can thaw and bake as directed as well.
Yes, fresh garlic can be used for a stronger flavor. Use about 5-6 fresh garlic cloves finely minced in place of garlic powder for this recipe.
