I recently started making my own Homemade Sausage Patties recipe and they are the bomb-diggity!
Let me tell you why…
They have no mystery ingredients like MSG, high fructose corn syrup, and sodium nitrate, among other weird ingredients I have no idea what they are. They taste good, and I mean good! My kids even gobbled them up with no complaints – and that’s saying something. This homemade sausage patties recipe is one that I can make ahead of time and freeze, making it another freezer meals recipe to make my mornings easier and less stressful. Below is the recipe, I hope you enjoy it!
Homemade Sausage Patties Recipe
Ingredients:
2 lbs ground pork, at room temperature
1.25 lbs ground turkey, at room temperature
1/3 cup pureed or finely chopped onion (puree or chop first in blender or food processor).
2 tsp finely minced fresh parsley, or dried if you don’t have fresh
2 tsp fine Celtic sea salt –>find quality salt products here
1 tsp ground sage (affiliate link)
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp dried basil (affiliate link)
1 tsp dried oregano
2 teaspoons pure maple syrup (Buy it on Amazon)
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes, optional
Method:
To begin making this homemade sausage patties recipe you need to combine all the seasonings in a bowl and mix until well blended. Add in ground meat and onion, using your hands to combine thoroughly.
If cooking your homemade sausage patties recipe right away, shape into patties and cook over med-high heat on heavy skillet or griddle sprayed lightly with oil. Cook until nice and brown and no longer pink in the middle, a few minutes on each side.
Oh wait..what was I saying? Sorry this picture is making me drool and want to make and eat some more of this homemade sausage patties recipe. Okay back to the recipe… sorry about that. I get distracted easily.
To shape patties you can either use your hands or do what I did. Take some meat and place between two layers of plastic wrap. With a rolling pin roll out meat to desired thickness.
Remove top layer of plastic wrap. Take a round cookie cutter or top of a drinking glass, and press down to cut out nice round sausage patties.
Transfer to hot griddle to cook or baking sheet to be frozen.
To Freeze:
Shape and roll mixture into two logs about six inches long. Wrap in plastic wrap and freeze. To use, thaw and slice into patties with knife, then cook.
Or if you like, you can shape into patties, and layer them individually onto a parchment lined baking sheet and freeze. Then remove and add to a freezer safe gallon sized bag.

I made these today with a few changes. I didn’t have sage or Turkey, instead I used rosemary. They turned out perfect. I will definitely be make in them again. Thanks for sharing.

Let me know what you think if you try refrigerating then overnight first!
Suzette says
can this be made without the turkey?
Happy.MoneySaver says
It definitely could be made without turkey but you would need a replacement meat for it. I would say use all pork instead of the turkey.

I can’t wait to try this for my family later this week, but one question: if I use meat that was already frozen to make the patties, can I freeze the patties once they are made, or is it not ok to re-freeze?
Thank you!
Happy.MoneySaver says
Yes, as long as you defrost it in the fridge and then freeze again you are fine. You can’t thaw in the microwave or in the sink or even the counter and then refreeze it though–only the fridge! 🙂

I made and froze these last night and cooked two this morning for breakfast. Fantastic! I look forward to trying more of your recipes. Next on my list is homemade granola bars for the kids. Thank you!

Becky says
How many sausage patties does this make per batch?
Jen says
Wanted to try this recipe but only had 3/4 pound of ground beef. So I halved or quartered some of the different spices, based on how much I like them and how good they go with beef. I left the maple syrup the same though. 😛 It tasted great.
I totally agree about the no additives and no MSG. I need to eat more protien for breakfast though since I cant eat eggs or bacon and I don’t trust regular sausage. 🙂 Thank you very much for the recipe, going to hopefully get ground turkey at some point and make some more 🙂

Have you ever cooked and THEN frozen? I’m thinking a quick zap in the microwave in the morning, and wondering how they would turn out. Thanks!
Happy.MoneySaver says
Yeah, I have tried cooking them and freezing them! It works great for the morning rush!

These look positively wonderful and I am a sausage freak. Thanks Karrie. I will be making them for sure.
Lindsay says
When you freeze the patties, do you thaw them before cooking? I’m making brunch for a crowd and I’d love to be able to bake these in the oven from frozen ideally, any idea if this would work?
Happy.MoneySaver says
Yes you can go from the freezer to the oven–no thawing necessary! These would be perfect for a brunch!

These were great! I left out the maple syrup (whoopsy) and they were perfect without it. Thanks for the recipe 🙂

Made these, ate some right away and had second serving from frozen stock — delicious both times! Thank you for this simple recipe.

Karrie,
I love your posts on homemade foods with no unknown ingredients. I am still waiting to try your Hidden Valley Ranch one. I am considering starting the Feingold diet to help my son’s ADHD, which eliminates artificial stuff, a few preservatives know to be a problem and artificial sweeteners, which we already don’t do. I have been reading about it and it is very overwhelming to realize how much of this stuff is in food we eat everyday, even when we think it is good whole food- even some milk isn’t ok. It is very sad to me. Thank you for giving me some inspiration when I needed it!
Karrie says
So glad you are enjoying my new recipes and direction. I too am trying to get rid of many artificial ingredients and head back to real natural foods. But trying to do it on a budget. Thanks for your comment. 🙂
stephanie says
Yes it is the budget I am concerned about when trying to figure out how to do this. For people who don’t coupon, the change probably isn’t noticable. To a couponer changing from Kraft mac and cheese to Annies, that could be a $1 a box difference. You get it. Health is more important than money though, and if I have to give something up like my coffee habit, I will do it.

We don’t eat pork. I’ve tried all turkey meat & it has a wierd taste ( related to the meat not the mix) quickly rejected by my whole family. I even tried using it in sausage balls and got “turkey” complaints. Do you have any recommendations for another meat besides pork?? Thank you for great recipes!
Janine says
Try using ground chicken for the recipe.
Karrie says
I think you might be able to make sausage out of many kinds of ground meats. Ground sirloin, deer, moose…I say give it a try. 🙂

I have made my own sausage using pork butt from my local wholesale grocer, next time, I am planning to use your recipe. The commercial sausage is generally too spicy, too salty, and too fatty for the life style I would like to follow.
Melissa says
Oh yum – totally making these and I agree, tired of all the junk I can’t pronounce in my food. Thanks for sharing!
chavonne schmidt says
This looks wonderful. I have in the past precooked the sausage patties (unfortunately mine were store bought) then baked eggs in a muffin pan and put them together with muffins or biscuits for a very easy breakfast. Just heat and serve. Think maybe I’ll do that today!

These look great! I’m going to try and make them this weekend! Love your website 🙂

These look great! I am right with ya on the no MSG or nitrates or other scary ingredients! Hope to make these soon. Thanks!
