Sometimes I like to have fun cooking. My kids LOVE these bread bowls. Something about Eating their bowl makes them giddy. . It does require some time to make the bread bowls, so only make those if you will be home for the day. If I dont have time I still make this brocoli soup with no bread bowls and we all love it. This would also be really cool if you were entertaining.
Bread Bowls:
Ingredients
9 Cups All Purpose Flour
2 TBSP salt
1 1/2 TBSP Yeast
3 Cups Water
Mix all ingredients together. Knead. Raise until double 1-2 hours. Punch down and raise again 1-2 hours. Punch down and form into 4-6 round shapes. Let Rise again about 1 hour. Bake at 425 degrees. Put bowls in oven, then spray oven with water, not the bread. (This adds moisture to the air in the oven for a crackly look to your bread) After 2 minutes, spray oven with water again. Wait 2 minutes, spray oven again. Wait 2 Minutes, spray oven last time. After last spray bake for 10 minutes more until golden. Then turn off oven and leave for 10 more minutes. Freezes well!
Broccoli Soup recipe:
1 Cup Onion finely chopped
2 cups potatoes, cubed
1 Full bunch of fresh broccoli chopped finely (or 1 bag of frozen brocoli)
1 Can evaporated milk
2 1/2 Cups regular milk (even powdered will work)
1 Stick Margarine or butter
3/4 cup flour
1 1/2 tsp Salt
Pepper
2 Tbsp Red Wine Vinegar
Place chopped vegetables in sauce pan. Add enough water to cover and simmer them for about 10 minutes or until barely tender. In the meantime, pour milk, evap milk and flour into a large sauce pan. Wisk the flour into milk until well blended. Add butter to pan, and slowly bring to a boil, stirring slowly until thick. Add undrained vegetables, and vinegar and heat through. Season with salt and pepper. Add cheese if you like!
The bread bowls cost me about $1.50 to make, and the soup costs about $3. So a grand total of about $4.50 for a family of 6! Its a great thrify meal for us…and its just plain ole fun to eat.

Sry, but I want to make sure I get this right! Their too yummy looking to pass up!! The total baking time with spraying and everything is about 30 mins then?

When I spray them, its just like 3 quick sprays with a water bottle kinda toward the walls of the oven. I changed the wording on the bread bowl recipe to hopefully make more sense.

When you are spraying them every 2 mins how long do you do that for? Yummy!

That looks really good, but I’m a little bit confused as to how long they need to be cooked for?
