Slow Cooker Roast Beef French Dip Sandwiches are a delicious, quick, tasty, hearty dinner. Plus it’s one of the easiest freezer meals I make! So stop what you are doing, and add this to your menu of meals now. I promise you will be glad you did.
If you really want to show off (having a dinner party or guests) open up your bread, add the beef, and a slice of provolone cheese and broil it. It becomes a masterpiece then.
ROAST BEEF FRENCH DIP SANDWICH RECIPE
To begin with you will need a nice beef roast and two cans of Beef Consumme.
Freezer meal directions: If you are making this into freezer meals then just drop these ingredients into a ziploc freezer bag, label and freeze. See how easy this is for a freezer meal? No chopping, mixing or anything. You can thaw it out for 24 hours in your freezer the day before you cook it. Or honestly sometimes I will freeze this roast in the bag upright so I don’t need to thaw. I will then cook it a bit longer (like on low for 8-10 hours).
For regular directions, just add all ingredients to your slow cooker. Cook on low for 6-8 hours (or high 4 hours). I prefer the slow on low method, as I find the meat is more tender.
If you are home you might consider making some homemade rolls or buns. Or not. You can buy some at the store so they will be ready for you when it’s dinner time.
Then when you are done, take out the roast beef and shred it gently. It should be so tender it will fall apart easily. Then use a fat separator or stick the juice/fat mixture in the fridge till it cools to separate.
Add your beef to a sandwich and dip in the juice. YUM!
Below is a printable recipe. Enjoy!

I have a Beef Top Round Roast that is frozen. Can I put that in my crock pot with beef consommé or does the meat have to be thawed already?
Karrie says
You can add it in frozen, but it will take another hour or two longer for cooking. Works like a charm as I forget to thaw all the time and just toss mine in frozen first thing in the morning. Aren’t these make ahead meals awesome!

I spent my Saturday making six of your freezer meals! Thanks for having family friendly, healthy food available. My first time ever cooking in bulk, my house smells great and everyone’s excited to stop eating out! Looking forward to every meal! Thanks again!

I’ve seen this question posted already, but no answer yet.
About how many servings does this yield? I’m going to make it, but I’d like to know if this is enough for a family of 4.
Thanks =)

It depends on how much your family eats, if you have teenagers ect. But I would say 4-6! 🙂 I have a family of 6 and this feeds us all.

We made this and loved it! And I will be making it again and again. For the bread we bought the $1 French bread at Walmart and cut it up. It was a yummy & easy meal! Thanks so much for sharing!

What is the point of freezing a raw chunk of beef and canned soup in a bag? All you do is waste a freezer bag…why not just freeze the meat until you are ready to cook and leave the soup in the cans they come in?
Freezer meals typically bring to mind cooked meals that are then frozen. This “recipe” is pointless.

Freezer meals happen in many different ways. When you are a freezer meal beginner having easy meals that you can have ready to go without worrying if you have all the ingredients is priceless and gives you confidence to do some of these meals you are talking about. It is also great for a quick meal that you can leave easy instructions for your kids to throw together! 🙂

I also like to freeze all my meats in a marinade or sauce of some type, it marinades as it freezes and as it thaws!

How do you make the rolls? They look delish! 😀

Instead of freezing before cooking, can you cook it and then freeze shredded roast in smaller portions? If so, do you freeze the juices separate as well? Thanks!
Happy.MoneySaver says
You definitely could freeze the cooked meat. I would probably still separate the juices and freeze them in a different container. And then just warm them both up for a quick lunch or dinner!

Silly question: I bought the 2 cans of Campbell’s beef consumme, but do I add the water or keep them condensed?
Karrie says
Just condensed, no water!

I can’t use the beef consumme because of the msg. What can I use in place of it? I dearly love a good french dip sandwich!
Karrie says
How about an organic beef base with a little bit of water. Give that a go and see how the flavor turns out. 🙂

Hi, Thanks so much for all your great ideas. I can’t wait to do another round of stocking my freezer. I’m going to try a lot of these recipes too. Do you have a recipe or link for the hard rolls you recommended to accompany this recipe?
Thanks!

How many servings is this recipe?

Just wondering after you make the beef can you freeze it? and do you have any idea how long it will stay good for?
Karrie says
I usually will not freeze items twice, so if you think this recipe will be too much at once, then take your roast and cook it up like the recipe says before you freeze anything. Then you can add it to individually sized freezer safe bags to freeze. Freezer meals will stay great for 3-4 months in the freezer.
daryn says
If you cook fresh thrn freeze would you package the dipping juice with the meat or seperate?
Happy.MoneySaver says
Depending on how you like it. I usually keep the juices together because it freezes and then when I warm up it is together and keeps the meat moist. But you could freeze it separately and then add it in if you want.
