20 Kids Summer Fun Activities on a Budget

I am excited to announce a new series on this blog that will last 20 days throughout the summer. This series will be called Summer Fun Activities on a Budget! This will be a fun series of inexpensive summer activities for ALL ages!

For the first post of Summer Activities on a Budget I chose a fun activity the kids would love! Home-made Popsicles of course! There’s nothing like an ice-cold, sweet Popsicle on a hot sunny day like today!

INGREDIENTS:

  • PITCHER – most of you should have one already, but if not you can buy this one on Amazon for only $4.79
  • JUICE MIX – we prefer Country Time Strawberry lemonade..yum.
  • POPSICLE MOLD – lots of choices on Amazon or look for them at the dollar store.
  • WATER

You’ll want a juice mixture of some sort, we used Country Time Lemonade (that I was able to pick up for under $1 at Fred Meyer a while back), popsicle holders (also picked up for $1 at the dollar tree), and a pitcher. We kept it super simple.  If you wanted fancier popsicles you can mix in fresh fruit, Kool-Aid,  Nutella,  yogurt or whatever ingredient you desire really!

Have your kids follow the instructions on how to prepare the juice mix and let them mix away! This little guy is my son Drake.  Boy was he happy to be a “big boy” and fill the pitcher with water, dump the mix in and stir it all by himself!

Can you see the excitement in Drakes facial expression?!

You can tell he is just beaming with excitement. Makes you wonder what really goes through their minds….

Pour the mixture into the popsicle molds and put the tops on the popsicle mold.  Then place in the freezer for a couple hours. The anticipation for the popsicles was incredible! The kids just couldn’t wait to eat them and were adamant about checking on them every 30 minutes to see if they were done yet 😀 The popsicles were completely frozen in 2.5 hours.

Kaiah, Linzey, Landon, Drake & Canna surely enjoyed their popsicles!

Especially Miss Canna (picture at top of post)! What more could a child want – Cheetos and strawberry lemonade popsicles! Not only was it a hit for the kids, I am happy only spending $2.00 out of pocket and I can make up to 96 (or 4¢ each) popsicles throughout the summer using 6 quarts of strawberry lemonade!
