Happy New Years! One of the New Years Resolutions many people have on their lists is to get organized! I know this has been on mine just about every year. When you are organized it frees up your time for important things and makes you feel great. There is so many demands on parents and families {especially couponing ones} and there always seems to be long TO DO lists. However when you are organized it just makes life a little easier and things run smoother. So this week we are going to have a few posts on Getting Organized. Thoughout the years I have learned some helpful tips and thought I would share!
:: keeping a clean house::
I don’t know about you, but if my house is clean, I end up having a great day. The stress is gone and I, along with everyone else in my house is happy. I always thought that being organized meant getting a whole bunch of storage containers & labels and that was that. But…becoming organized is a lot more than that! I wanted to be more organized with my time. I noticed that if my house was dirty, I didn’t know where to begin and the thought of it caused me so much stress that I would just sit around all day and get nothing accomplished, which resulted in me feeling irritated, sad or grumpy. If my house was clean early in the day, or anytime during the day, that would leave me with much more time to spend with my kids, go couponing, get dinner cooked and relax. It left me with moments like this.
Getting Started:
-
First write out what chores you want to get done.
-
Then categorize them into weekly jobs, monthly jobs, quarterly, bi-yearly and yearly.
-
Then make a chart of what chores you need to get done M-F. {On my weekly chore chart, I would add some monthly chores on Friday and some Yearly ones on Saturdays.}
-
Then put it up in a place that you would see often. {I put mine up on my fridge of course!} Each day I looked at my list and did my small list of chores. The first week was the hardest because for me it was a lot of deep cleaning, but after that it is just up keep. That’s what I really LOVE about this system!
After a while you dont have to follow it strictly because you get into a routine and then it serves more as a guildline to follow. This has really helped me manage my housework. I hope this works for you. Its a great way to become more organized with maintaining your household.
Here is my Home Maintenance Schedule and here is one of my Weekly Chore Charts I put on my fridge.
I hope you find this helpful.

The flylady.net is a great resource too. She breaks down every conceivable chore in a similar chart, but will even have email reminders each day if that will help. She comes up with stuff I would have never thought of…until I go to clean it and think, “GROSS, was this here the whole time?!”.

I am not quite that organized that I have it all prelisted, but my family does do a small chore list each day. I have 4 small children, a 5 yr old, a 2 yr old and 17 mos old twins, so finding time to do things was a hassle. What finally worked for us was giving the kids chore charts. The twins are too young, but every morning, the other two each have a small list, some of which are deep cleaning. Obviously I help them with their chores as they are too young to do them by themselves, but it allows me to involve them, so they are learning how to do them, plus I actually get them done without the kids creating chaos in the other room. Then they get excited when they finish their chores and we have rewards that they can earn by keeping up with their chores!

Wow! Thanks for sharing your charts. This is just what I’ve needed, but have a brian block and haven’t been able to create it, or find one online. I met one of your friends this weekend @ a McDonalds in Rexburg. She mentioned your blog & here I am. I love it and will visit more often! Thanks for the deals.
