  • Thrifty Tip Tuesday: Comic Wrapping Paper!

    comics wrapping paper

Aren’t these presents so cute??  Save yourself some money by saving all your Sunday newspaper comic’s and using them for wrapping presents later. They are especially cute at birthday parties for kids. Just add some accessories like bows + ribbon and you have yourself a fun wrapped present.

You could add ribbon, raffia, buttons, flowers, and I have even once tied on a little McDonalds toy to the bow with ribbon to add to the “comic-look”.

Using the Comics as wrapping paper is a great way for you to save a little money + its great for the environment too.

What other ideas have you found for thrifty wrapping paper?

Growing up we did this, my older brother mostly, and he was known for having the “cool comic” wrapping paper. I look back and wonder if those mom’s just felt sorry for us not having real wrapping paper. Nowadays it is awesome, and even cuter with a little decorative touch, not my mom’s thing.

A few things I like to do are
Use left over fabric pieces -
Make bags out of fabric – pillow cases – or even t-shirts are fun
Let kids stamp – draw or paint on plain paper – At Christmas my kids enjoy stamping with sponge stamps on paper in red and green paint

We love using comics for wrapping paper too! The kids that receive it seem to really like it. One of my favorite things to do when using gift bags is to stuff it with tulle instead of tissue. Tulle is very inexpensive at the fabric store and adds a nice touch. You can also cut tulle and use it as a ribbon on a package.

I love all your ideas! I would have never thought to use tulle as gift bag stuffer, but I am sure I have tons of it in the garage from working on a wedding for a family member awhile ago.

Oh and Abby, you bet! I would love to have you feature my comic presents post anytime.

so cute! I have 3 boys who love to color so for smaller gifts I use their old drawings and doodles. we also cut the drawing down and glue them to cardstock to make cards

I like to “repurpose” the kids art work for their grandparents gifts.

I have used mailing paper (plain brown paper) or you could use paper bags, cut apart. Sometimes I add ink stamping to make it more interesting.

Keep any interesting packaging to reuse, I once bought wine from a small winery and the paper wine bags had a nice pattern and I used it to wrap some smaller presents. The elastic bows that come on things like candy boxes or tea samplers are great to reuse.

At the after Christmas sales I try to buy at least one non-Christmassy paper like a solid color or a gingham pattern to wrap presents all year long.

I love to save tissue paper, but as you all know it doesn’t ever look the same after kids pull it out of the gift bags – so, I put it through my shredder (it’s not a cross-shredder, just straight long pieces) and it’s a great filler for gift bags.

Make the wrapping part of the present! I just went to a baby shower and wrapped the present in a solid pink blanket tied with a matching ribbon. For another shower I put everything in a basket that can be used as a diaper caddy. For girl’s bday present, I decorated a purse size colored tote bag with puffy paint and filled it with the gifts.
You can use any bag, box or blanket/clothing to hold the gift and then there really is NO waste or useless garbage!

The bows you chose really made the packages look chic! Great job!
