Frequently Asked Questions
How long do Freezer Meals last?
Most freezer meals will last about 6 months when stored properly. Don’t forget to write the date you packaged the ingredients on the freezer bag! Take a look at these other freezer organization tips!
Do you let the meals thaw before you put them in the crockpot?
Yes, it is best to thaw meat or poultry before putting it into a slow cooker. When meals are frozen, they take longer to reach a safe internal temperature and could possibly result in foodborne illness. I like to pull out my weekly meals and let them thaw in the fridge before adding them to my crockpot.
How to keep your Freezer Meals from becoming dry?
Freezer burn causes dry food. It happens when frozen foods are exposed to cold, dry air, which causes them to dehydrate as the outer layers lose moisture. Learn more about freezer burn here!

So I’m new to freezer meals. To do crock pot freezer meals do you cook it in the crockpot first and then freeze it or do you prep it out first and then freeze it and later cook it in the crockpot when you are ready?
Karrie says
You can do either, but I mostly prefer to freeze, prep first and then later cook it in the crockpot.

For my New Mexico Posole, I cook a large pork roast in the crock pot. With potatoes and carrots that makes one meal. A few days later I pull the pork and make Hatch green chili Posole using chicken broth, green chili, hominy and mexican spices. I got enough to freeze in 2 containers. 3 meals from one roast! So Good!
